Mwahahaha...

I just found an awesome tutorial. I know one of the things I'm going to get Scott for christmas/birthday :-D I'll probably get enough material to make more than one so if anyone wants one speak up!

Laziness = Death of trees...

So, Scott's IRA company has this brilliant process of mailing your Account updates to you EVERY 2 WEEKS. I find this to be A. ridiculously annoying (as they handle everything anyway) and B. a huge waste of paper. I'd asked Scott some time ago whether there was SOME way of getting them to stop, and he always claimed no. So I decided today that I was fed up with the HUGE pile of 2 week updates on his IRA.

So I did the presumptuous thing and set him up an online account with his IRA company and had them switch everything to Email instead. Now, I won't have to break out the shredder every two weeks, and Scott's inbox will only be slightly more spammed than usual. It's a pretty cool website too. Now he can go on and see his daily stock activity and whatnot.

I feel slightly guilty for being presumptuous, but dear god. It was annoying getting paper from them ALL the FRIKIN time.

:: feels satisfied at having saved probably a million trees by doing this ::

1st Week

So in my first week of work I spent precisely 3.2 days setting up my development environment and getting all of the appropriate permissions things, and have managed to complete a whopping...

(drum roll please)

16 tickets!

(these included things from minor permissions grantings, to relatively intensive web content changes)

needless to say, i think I rocked my new jobs socks off and really enjoyed it. It's been a blast and i've learned a bunch of new things about vi (still a pain even when you know stuff) and setting up alias's in your bash path, and all sorts of other fun nerdy things.

Oh did i mention that our whole team took yesterday afternoon off and the company took us to Dave and Busters and bought us $50 worth of DB points?

I think i'm in heaven.

Oh, and the public transportation system rocks. i can take a bus from basically the PNR near my house, to 1 block away from my building and get here in 40 minutes. Less time than it would take me to drive down the highway :)

I am content.

...

Then again, just got a phone call that my mom was held up at gun point in her pharmacy today. Luckily, the kid just got the drugs and left and didn't hurt anyone. Despite my difficulties with my mom, I don't think i could deal with losing both of my parents this year.

1 more week...

So I have 1 more week of classes. But god it's going to be a sucky week.

To Do:
Ethics Class:

- 15 pg paper on sexting

History Class:

- 5 pg paper on anabaptists or other suitably reformation thing

Principles of Programming Languages:

- Study for final (OMG Finally done with all programming assignments. So far have done Lisp, Prolog, and designed 2 languages)

Prob Stats:

- Study for test tomorrow, attempt to finish homework before then...but it is confusing :( (this is what I get for falling asleep/not paying attention in class)

===================

But hey! At least I start my new job tomorrow!!

Holy 8gb of Ram Batman!

Bought a new computer today :-D

I was too pissed off at the last computer I tried to build (that was horribly god-awful) and so I decided to buy out of box PC...

and it works. Gloriously.

Daddy died today...

Poe: Haunted

Ba da pa pa ba da pa pa...
Come here
Pretty please
Can you tell me where I am
You won't you say something
I need to get my bearings
I'm lost
And the shadows keep on changing

And I'm haunted
By the lives that I have loved
And actions I have hated
I'm haunted
By the lives that wove the web
Inside my haunted head

Ba da pa pa ba da pa pa...

Don't cry,
There's always a way
Here in November in this house of leaves
We'll pray
Please, I know it's hard to believe
To see a perfect forest
Through so many splintered trees
You and me
And these shadows keep on changing

And I'm haunted
By the lives that I have loved
And actions I have hated
I'm haunted
By the promises I've made
And others I have broken
I'm haunted
By the lives that wove the web
Inside my haunted head

Hallways... always

I'll always love you
I'll always need you
I'll always want you

And I will always miss you

Ba da pa pa ba da pa pa...

Come here
No I won't say please
One more look at the ghost
Before I'm gonna make it leave
Come here
I've got the pieces here
Time to gather up the splinters
Build a casket for my tears

I'm haunted
(By the lives that I have loved)
I'm haunted
(By the promises I've made)
I'm haunted
By the hallways in this tiny room
The echos there of me and you
The voices that are carrying this tune

Ba da pa pa...

Father :
What is it Annie?

Daughter :
You think I'll cry? I won't cry!
My heart will break before I cry!
I will go mad.

=======================================
This song will carry me through.

Birthdays and Weddings, Religion and Windows...

Birthdays and Weddings:

So I missed Jefe's birthday last week (because I retardedly didn't have it written down), and apparently everyone else bailed on him, which is lame. Anyways, I decided that we should hang out and make it up so we went to Sherpa's (an awesome awesome little place) and had Sherpa stew. I had the lamb variety, and jeff had the yak. I'm not sure there was much of a difference but at least we can both now say that we have eaten Yak! There was also garlic cheese stuffed nan bread. Heaven.

We then proceeded to watch "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" which is a hilarious movie, but maybe not all everyone cracked it up to be. It's definitely not in my top 10 funniest movies of all time list, but probably top 30 maybe?

I also went up to Deb's house to work on stuff for her daughter's wedding. We got the invitations and favors figured out, which is great progress considering we're 8 months out and about the only thing decided is the place and the colors. Lots of work to do there, but it'll be fun! The hard part is going to be making Deb not try to run the actual day, she's the mom, she needs to be the mom, not the wedding planner.

Religion:

I brought up the notion of going to a church that I know several other people who go to it and it seems to be a fairly liberal church. However, I was not prepared (as usual) for the anti-church visceral reaction from Scott. I should know better by now, nevertheless this usually ends up in a bizzarre kind of night for us of careful sidestepping and attempted explanations...it's weird.

Windows:

It's snowing like a madman, but the new windows are being installed anyways. Yay for new windows, boo for feeling bad for poor freezing window installers :-\

Last week I only worked out 3 days. But 2 of those days involved 4 hours of skiing...I figure that counts as a 4th workout!

Yesterday I talked to my dad which always rattles me a little bit, and decided to go to the gym to try and clear my head. I went and did a salsa moves class for half an hour, and then ran a 10 m 30 s mile. I had no idea I had that in me. It hurt like hell, but it's a good start. I think i'm just going to try to do that 3 times this week, and do the everything on the Wii-fit thing again tonight to destroy my core muscles.

Anywho, enough about exercise...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRIS!!! **uber-squeezy-hugs!**

I wish I could be in Cali today to celebrate with him :(

Belated spring break celebration on the way though :-D

Night Skiing!

My First night of night skiing last night :) I wish I'd gotten a picture of the four of us or something. Oh well.

It was cold, but as long as we were skiing I managed to warm up ok after the first bizzarre run where my toes randomly decided they would go completely numb. The Hot Chocolate and Schnapps may have had some effect in resolving that :-D.

The Run-Down:

- Schoolmarm to Silver Spoon to the Montezuma Expr.
- Frenchman
- Flying Dutchman
- Spring Dipper
- Frenchman again (I think my favorite run on the front mountain)
- Flying Dutchman to River-run
- Schoolmarm to Dercum's Dash, to the bottom half of River Run to finish out the night

All in all, one heckuva great night with great friends :)

Hula Hoop

I think I have a new brilliant exercise fad to bring to the table...

Try hula hooping for half an hour every day for a while. You will have abs of steel.

That is all.

Ski Day 2

Went skiing for the second time this season on sunday with Alex, Sharon, Scott. We couldn't have asked for a better day. It was cold, but sunny, and not crowded at all! Here's the "run"-down. Ha, ah hah.

- Rode River Run gondola to the top of Dercum Mtn
- Took Schoolmarm (green) down to Silver Spoon (green) over to the Montezuma Express lift
- Took Mozart (blue) over to the Santiago Express lift on North Peak
- Ate lunch at the hut at the top of North Peak
- Took Prospector (blue), Starfire (blue), and Last Alamo/Mozart (blue) riding the Santiago Express back up each time
- Took Spillway/Foxtrot (Blue) over to Outback mtn and took the Outback Express
- Took Wayback lift back to Northpeak, did Starfire (blue) again
- Took Ruby Express lift back to Dercum and did Spring Dipper (blue/green) down to the bottom of River-Run (blue) to finish out the day

All in all, my legs were exhausted by the end of it, but damn it was fun :)

Happy New year!

As the theme of this week seems to be new years goals...i've got a few of my own:

1. Exercise at least 4 days a week

2. Eat healthier (mostly meaning eat less cheese as other than cheese I eat relatively healthily)

3. Work on more personal side projects
- Learn more about C++
- Learn more about C# & GTK+
- stuff?

4. Read at least 1 novel every 2 weeks. IE 26 novels this year.

Maybe?

$400 per person 7 night cruise out of L.A. that would encompass all of spring break. Very tempting...

Except.

Scott says that March produces the best skiing, and I like skiing, and feel I should get lots of use out of my pass :-\

Woohoo!

I win, I'm no longer the person who posts on LJ least frequently!

Updated my resume, going to take the weekend and relax, and then monday I should have my phone back and will be in full on job-search mode! WOOHOO!

I've tossed out a few feelers to my last company to see if they'd have anything that might work for me, we'll see.

Love is love, no matter who it is

Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

Yay phone!

It will cost me $25 + shipping, but my cell phone should be back home with me friday.

It will be awfully hard to hunt for jobs without it. But at least I'll be there when FedEx delivers.

One thing i am looking forward to, is having time to do some stuff to the house like paint the living room, maybe put some shelves up for Scott's CD's and the DVD's. Who knows.

Hopefully I'll have a new job at some point in the next month or so. :) And my phone, will help me. Once its here. lol.

Haiku of the day (thanks for the idea kit!):

Thought I was secure
Found out I was not at all
looking for new job

So yea, got laid off today from a job that I thought I was relatively secure in. To make me feel better though, went out and had an awesome drunk-fest with a whole bunch of other people that got laid off! It ended up being something like 60-70% of our corporate office which ends up being somewhere around 50-75 people. I guess that is what happens when things finally start getting done but they realize that omg you actually might have to spend a little to make a company work right.

I almost feel worse for the people who are salaried & left behind who are going to be working about 90 hrs a week to make up for all the work that has been left behind. Oh well, guess its time to spiff up the old resume.
